The book has been developed and curated by Nick Cave in collaboration with Christina Back. Stranger Than Kindness asks what shapes our lives and makes us who we are, and celebrates the curiosity and power of the creative spirit. It features full colour reproductions of original artwork, handwritten lyrics, photographs and collected personal artefacts along with commentary and meditations from Nick Cave, Janine Barrand and Darcey Steinke. This highly collectable book invites the reader into the innermost core of the creative process and paves the way for an entirely new and intimate meeting with the artist, presenting Cave's life, work and inspiration and exploring his many real and imagined universes. I am so proud to be a part of this unique and unorthodox exhibition-a shattered history we called Stranger Than Kindness.” In the end we were able to put together an exhibition of extraordinary detail that commented on the fragile and vulnerable nature of identity. But the team at the library were clearly serious people with a wonderful infectious energy and they drew me in! We created an exhibition that feels unprecedented in its audacious reach, its feet rooted in the past while extending into the uncertain future. On April 8, Stranger Than Kindness will open at the Galerie de la Maison du Festival in Montreal, Quebec. Now, the exhibition will make its North American debut. Back in 2020, the Nick Cave exhibition, Stranger Than Kindness, debuted in Copenhagen, featuring objects collected from throughout Cave’s career in addition to large scale installations.
